About The Return Of The Salmon
The Return Of The Salmon Story
The theme of The Return of the Salmon is the final stage of the salmon’s lifelong odyssey. The salmon’s single-mindedness and determination is the driving force for the story. This short nature documentary zooms in on salmon as they deal with challenges during their migration to their natal rivers in the vast Alaskan wilderness. What unfolds gives an insight to the key role of salmon in their environment and reflects the cyclical nature of life.
Long Distance Collaboration
The Return of the Salmon is a joint production by award-winning British videographer, Tim Plowden and Alaskan composer Christel Veraart. Together they illustrate one of Alaska’s wildlife wonders. In this short video, Tim Plowden’s footage, time-lapse and stills are accompanied by a score especially composed and performed by Christel Veraart.
The Return of the Salmon showcases their successful long-distance creative collaboration. Their co-production represents a fusion of two individual artists bound by discipline and commitment in meeting tight deadlines through problem-solving whist upholding their creative vision. The result is a poetic synthesis of music and imagery to tell the story of the return of the salmon.
Every Story Deserves A Happy Ending
In March 2016, I asked seasoned voice over professional, Kevin O’Connell, to record the narration. When I heard his work, I knew immediately I’d chanced upon the voice that would bring my vision for The Return of the Salmon to a very happy conclusion.
